Frequently asked questions

How much does the program cost?

This workshop is funded by an NSF grant (#1846559). It is free for accepted applicants.

What is the time commitment?

The workshop is expected to last  ~4-6 months. We will meet once a week primarily in-person, for 1 hour. Students will be expected to complete ~1 hour/week of work on their own time as well.

I read the workshop overview, and it looks like a lot of work. Is this necessary?

The problem you will be addressing in the workshop (figuring out what disease causing mutations do to your cells) is a complex problem with several components; you will be exposed to all of them. By the end of the workshop you will have a significant body of extracurricular, academic work that will be impressive to future potential employers or research labs, should you decide to pursue any research work in the future in college, for example.

Are there any prerequisites for taking the workshop?

There currently are no pre-requisites to join the workshop -- all students are welcome to apply!
